HISTORY

The festival is celebrated in honor of the Holy Blood (Santíssima Sang), patron saint of Denia. Its religious origin is related to the foundation of the Brotherhood of the Blood of Christ in 1587, but it was in 1633 when the devotion of the city lived its paroxysm when the Fray Pere Esteve, the popular "Pare Pere" healed the population from an epidemic through his divine intercession.

The date of its celebration is variable during the month of July, it is organized around the day of the Holy Blood, considered a local holiday and takes place the second Wednesday after the feast of Saint Peter. The acts of the festival last nine days, begin the Saturday before that Wednesday and end the Sunday after.

It is a festival in which all types of public can participate and enjoy, since it offers an extensive and varied program of activities formed by outstanding events that are repeated each year and others that vary.

Among the main events we must mention "Els Bous a la Mar de Dénia" declared Festival of National Tourist Interest in 1993 and "Les Carrosses de Dénia" declared Provincial Tourist Interest Festival in 2007.
